About

We are a Cutting family. One site on the web gives a great run down on the genealogy of the Cutting family. (http://genforum.genealogy.com/cutting.) We imagine we could be part of this lineage, but we haven’t been able to confirm that.

On the paternal side, we are the descendents of Sanford Morton Cutting, who lived from October 28, 1840 to July 31, 1931. He married Cora Barrett on November 25, 1872. Ralf Sanford Cutting, the last of 6 children, was born on December 24, 1883.

On the maternal side, we are descendents of Charles Andrew Johnson, born October 8, 1864 in Stockholm, Sweden. He came to the US in 1877 and settled in Emmett, Kansas. Mary Belle Hill was born November 6, 1874, in Springfield, Illinois. He married her at her parent’s home on November 5, 1893. Abbie Johnson, their third child among nine, was born April 14, 1989 in Lexington, Oregon.

Ralf Sanford Cutting married and had a son Albert. He later remarried to Abbie Violet Johnson. Together they had four children: Charles, Dale, Cora Belle, and Donald. Cora Belle and Donald, we are grateful to say, are with us still. It is the descendents of Ralf and Abbie Cutting who are gathering July 20th – 22nd for a second family reunion.

So, what is this all about? It’s about the recognition that families need family. There were many things that separate our families: death, the Great Depression, wars and work. Cousins grew up having little if any contact with cousins, aunts and uncles—and knowing even less about their larger family. So, it is the need to connect, the need to fill this void, the need to know that there is family, and the need to know about family that happily has us reuniting at Ocean Shores this summer.

We have simple goals: to have fun, to enlarge our sense of family, to build heart-connecting relationships, to restore our sense of belonging, and to gain a better understanding about how we as a family fit into the world we live in. And that, my friend, is what we and this website are all About.
